How to Stay Motivated in the Gym

Sometimes your motivation for going to the gym can wane, and that’s okay. It happens to the best of us, even to those muscle-bound gym-goers who seem like nothing could come between them and their workout.

Coming up are some solid tips to help you stay motivated.

#1 Set performance based goals

Maybe you’ve been working out for a while and you’re still struggling to do a single pull-up, for example. Use that as your focus and build your routine around achieving that goal.

#2 Temptation Bundling

Have you got a favourite Netflix show, audiobook or podcast that you can’t wait to get started on?

If you do then make this the reason you go to the gym. Make a pact with yourself to only watch or listen to the above when you go to the gym to workout.

#3 Do the bare minimum

It’s ok to do 2 sets instead of 3, or 4 exercises instead of 8 if you’re not feeling motivated to complete a whole workout.

Doing something is better than nothing at all. If you skip working out for a while getting started again can be a huge challenge. Staying consistent by doing the bare minimum will at least keep your momentum going.

#4 Change your routine

Doing the same routine can get boring so why not spice it up and try something different. You could try an exercise class or equipment that you have never used before.

It could be as simple as doing things in a different order.

#5 Reward yourself

When you meet milestones, treat yourself to a massage or new workout gear.

#6 Find a workout buddy

Having a training partner can be fun, challenging and motivating.

#7 Reflect

Remind yourself of the mental and physical benefits of working out, like reducing stress and improving overall health.
